David Favire Obituary


David T. Favire VIRGINIA BEACH - David Thomas Favire, 66, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, passed away in Las Vegas, Nev., Sept. 15, 2008. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1991 as a chief engineman and was employed by the Virginia Beach school system in 1997 until he retired in 2004. David was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Elizabeth, N.J., to David Favire and Frances Bowen, both deceased. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edward Favire; sister, Laraine Flemm; his first wife, Susan Bongiovanni; and his uncle, Thomas Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Favire; daughter, Renee McCroskey and husband David and grandsons, Tyler and Nathan; daughter, Angele Favire and grandson, Isaiah DeLoatch. Upon marrying Laurie Hackett in 2002, Dave became stepdad to Marianne Hinds and husband Nick, Katie Hackett, Betsy Bragg and husband Keith, Philip Hackett and Andrew Hackett. Dave enjoyed his role of "Pop" to all of the nine grandchildren born, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Isaiah, Jacob, Donovan, Tyler, Baileigh, Nathan and Cameron. Dave leaves behind numerous family members in the New Jersey area, brother-in-law, William Flemm, nieces, Kimberly, Carrie and nephew, Billy as well as their children; sister-in-law, Helena Favire and cousins, Elaine and Valorie. During his 30 years in the Navy, he met many good friends like Rosa Fein and Fred Maier. He also met many friends at Independence Middle School and those he met during his travels in his RV with Laurie. Dave enjoyed spending time with his extended family members in Virginia during the holiday season, his Navy years, traveling in his RV, fishing and playing the slots in Vegas. He will be loved forever and missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, 1513 E. Sewells Point Road, Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
