Dorothy Schmidt Obituary


Dorothy C. Schmidt VIRGINIA BEACH - Dorothy Cambeilh Schmidt died Oct. 29, 2008. Born in Galveston, Texas, Dec. 15, 1921, she was the widow of retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. George C. Schmidt and daughter of the late Henri and Willard Cambeilh. Dorothy was a past president and active member of the Officers Wives Association. She was also a member of the Retired Officers Wives Association. She was a life member of the LaMarque, Texas, Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and volunteered for the American Red Cross at various military hospitals. A Methodist, she attended Baylake Pines United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn and Andy Hyman of South Carolina, Barbara and Chuck Parker of Carrollton and Janet and Preston Sudduth of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rusty Parker (Michelle), Eric Parker (Holly), Todd Parker, Rebecca Turner (Casey), Laura Alexander (Bill), Andrew Hyman (Heather) and Loren Hyman (Ashley). Seven great-grandchildren also survive. Also left to cherish her memory is Holly Tate, her longtime companion and care-giver. The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of Oakdale Heights Senior Living and Odyssey Hospice for their love and support. Services will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1 p.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service. A private burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery. Remembrances can be made to the American Parkinsons Disease Association or The Odyssey Foundation.
