Virginia Byrd Obituary


Virginia B. Byrd SUFFOLK - Virginia Boyette Byrd, 98, passed on to eternal life Oct. 30, 2008, at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Born in Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle U. and Wilbur J. Boyette Sr., and widow of Roger L. Bailey and J. Leonard Byrd. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and retired after 45 years of service as an office manager for Southwestern Life Insurance Company. She was an active volunteer with the Obici Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross. Survivors include her brother, Richard L. Boyette and his wife Bertie of Virginia Beach; nephew, Richard L. Boyette Jr. and his wife Paige of Machipongo, Va.; nieces, Cheryl B. Bradshaw of Sedley, Va., and Katherine B. Carpenter and husband Nat of Raleigh, N.C.; great-nieces, Megan C. Townsend and husband Eric of Raleigh and Sandra B. Butler and husband Larry of Suffolk; great-nephews, William Blake Whitehead and wife Megan of Sedley and Randolph B. Boyette and wife Sharon of Suffolk; and a great-great-niece, Madeleine Townsend. A funeral will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Michael D. Halley, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
