A. Lueckert Obituary


A. Carl Lueckert Jr. NORFOLK - Adolph Carl Lueckert Jr. died Oct. 31, 2008, in Matthews, N.C. from complications of ALS. Carl was a lifelong native of Norfolk until June 2008, when he moved to Matthews to live with his daughter and her husband. Carl graduated from Norview High School. He continued his education at the Medical College of Virginia where he graduated with a degree in pharmacy in 1947; he was a registered pharmacist for 60 years. He began his distinguished career at Peoples Drug Store and later worked at Norfolk General Hospital and the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. As a Rotarian with the Northside Rotary Club, he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church where he was Clerk of the Session for many years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie and his sisters, Marie Ellis and Kathlyn Tillage. He is survived by his children, A. Carl Lueckert III and his wife Patty, both of Hampton, L. Shane Purcell and her husband Rich of Matthews, and Donald Lueckert and his wife Kathy of Des Moines, Wash. Carl is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Purcell and Allison Cypers and her husband Christopher, Jason and Gregory Arsenault. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lafayette Presbyterian Church by the Pastor Max Culler. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lafayette Presbyterian Church, the ALS Association or Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Chapter, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
