Evelyn Jennings

Evelyn Z.C. Jennings NORFOLK - Evelyn Z.C. "Shortie" Jennings, 84, of the 2100 block of Harrell Ave., passed away Oct. 30, 2008. She was born Nov. 19, 1923, to the late Cora Lee Cook and Frank F. Cook in Norfolk. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Cook Family Gospel Singers. Evelyn retired after 30 years of service with Norfolk public schools. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Jennings. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Arlene J. Allen and Celestine A. Jennings; two sisters, Clarice C. Branch and Alice C. Johnson (Alfred); three grandchildren, LaVonda Pritchard, LaTinas Jennings and Jerome Allen; 10 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Thursday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. The Rev. Eloise Neal Moore will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 2611 Chesapeake Blvd., one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church.
