Dorothy Chappell Obituary


Dorothy Lee Chappell BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Dorothy Lee Chappell passed away Oct. 28, 2008, in Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton. She was born on May 10, 1925, in Norfolk to Laura and Henry Blackwell, who preceded her in death. Dorothy attended the Regimental Memorial Chapel of the Transportation Corps at Fort Eustis, Va. She was a member and Honorary Past Commandress of the Daughters of Isis Zem Chapter No. 98 and a former member of the Arabia Court No. 23 in Portsmouth. Dorothy was also a former member of Ruth-Unity-Midlothian Chapter No. 3, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA and Football Fishbowl Queen in 1949. Dorothy leaves four children, Dana N. Dishman (Howard), Lynette D. Chappell-Williams, Major Lee Chappell Jr., and Kevin R. Chappell ( Gianina); four grandchildren, Pamela, Kimberly, Harold III and Paris; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. The Dorothy Chappell College Scholarship fund has been established through the Daughters of Isis-Zem Chapter 98 to benefit college students attending historically black colleges. Contributions will be accepted at the following: Daughters of Isis-Zem Court 98, Dorothy Chappell Scholarship Fund, 238 Rip Rap Road, Hampton, VA 23666, Attn.: Illustrious Recordress Mary Myrick. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hampton Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Brenda McDonald, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel 1601-27th St., Newport News, VA 23607. Family and friends are to assemble at the funeral chapel by noon Saturday.
