Diane Ames Obituary


Diane W. Ames VIRGINIA BEACH - Diane Willoughby Ames of Virginia Beach died Nov. 4, 2008. Mrs. Ames is survived by her husband, Walter C. Ames III; a brother, Kenneth B. Willoughby; a daughter, Elizabeth B. Healy and her husband Edward A. of Poquoson; a son, Bradley S. Bowden and his wife Angela of Portland, Ore.; her husband's two daughters, Ann A. Edelmann and her husband Van of Virginia Beach and Pattie W. Ames of Washington, D.C.; and seven grandchildren, Patrick Healy, Madelyn Healy, Blair Healy, Kelsey Edelmann, Stephen Edelmann, Eli Bowden and Stella Bowden. She was preceded in death by a son, Judson D. Bowden in 1977. Mrs. Ames was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Solon K. Willoughby. She was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church. Diane was a graduate of Norview High School, Class of 1953. In 1957, she graduated from Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Miss., where she served as president of the Student Government Council during her senior year. During her life, she worked as a home economist with Virginia Electric and Power Co., she taught English in Orange Park and Middleburg, Fla., and she had a 10-year career as an administrative assistant with the CPA firm of McPhillips, Lieland & Deans Inc. in Norfolk. Since 1996, she had been a docent at the Chrysler Museum of Art. A memorial service will be held Saturday in Gallilee Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Dr. James B. Magness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association, the Galilee Episcopal Church or to a charity of choice. H.D.
