Mary Workman Obituary


Mary M. Workman VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Mistrot Workman, 89, formerly of Westgrove Road, died Nov. 7, 2008. Mrs. Workman was born in Waco, Texas, the daughter of the late James and Antoinette W. Mistrot. She was a loving mother and Navy wife, and had retired from J.C. Penney Co. after 20 years of service. She was the widow of retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Machinist Mate John B. Workman since his death in 2002. Besides her husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Workman. Survivors include four children, John B. Workman Jr. and wife Phyllis of Virginia Beach, Jeannie W. Pressley of Portsmouth, Shirley W. Foster and husband Bart of Portsmouth, Earl E. Workman of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Frank Mistrot of Garland, Texas and James Mistrot of Pearland, Texas. She was also the proud "Mema" to 10 grandchildren, Melody, Shell, John, Dean, Michael, Steve, Jami, Kevin, Jason and Allison; and 14 great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by the Rev. Michael Boehling. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
