James Wright Obituary


James W. Wright VIRGINIA BEACH - James Warren Wright died Nov. 7, 2008, after a long illness. Born in Raleigh, N.C., he was a resident of Virginia Beach for 48 years. He was the son of the late James William Wright and Lena Bell Bolling. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Frances Verona Wright, and his brothers, Calvin Wright, William Wright, Charles Wright and Roy Wright. James served in the United States Marine Corps and was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility after 29 years of civil service. James was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Crusader Fellowship Sunday School Class. Left to cherish his memory is a daughter, Lee Ann Wright Smith; two sons, James W. Wright Jr. and David R. Wright; a sister, Margaret Maney, and two brothers, Winfred Wright and Dewey Wright. Other survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sarah R. Wright; a son-in-law, the Rev. Jeffrey B. Smith; five grandchildren, Jennifer R. Shea, Mary E. Wright, Brian D. Wright, Abbey L. Wright, and Kenneth A. Smith; and one great-grandchild, Rebecca M. Shea. A service of death and resurrection with be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Epworth United Methodist Church by her son-in-law and the Rev. Myron Simmons. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Home on the corner of Colonial and Shirley avenues. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Epworth United Methodist Church, Norfolk.
