To Renae and family: My deepest sympathy to you and Jim. I had the privilege of meeting your mother on several occasions when you and I worked together and she always had a smile on her face and a kind word to share. She was the epitome of what all women aspire to be - a gracious lady.

I feel blessed to have known Mrs. Futrell while growing up just a few steps from her home. It was a cherrished moment to get to talk to her everytime I would see her. My heart fell when I heard that God sent his best angels to get her and I am sure she will be one of his best. My prayers and love will go out to the whole family for there great loss.

I was fortunate enough to have three Ellis sisters for aunts--and an Ellis for the most wonderful mother ever--but Alma was an aunt like none of the others! Her style, her humor, her pride in her home, her joy in her beloved Guy and her children defy description. The way she never met a stranger that she couldn't convince that she was the greatest (and most beautiful!) of all the Ellis girls. How she could pile all her nieces and nephews in the car, along with her sisters, for a day a Virginia Beach and still get home and have a delicious dinner for Guy when he got home. Of all these wonderful memories of my childhood, nothing can ever top the horrible, icy, snowy day in my "grown-up" years that she and Guy drove up to Waynesboro to give me, my sister, my brother, and our families the love and support and mostly the laughs that we needed so desperately when we lost our Dad. Thankfully, Alma was one of a kind--and we were lucky enough to be related. I know that heaven has welcomed her and those of us left behind will just have to cherrish the memories. I am so glad that I have so many. To Guy and Brett and Renae, may you find peace and comfort in the memories, support from those who loved Alma, and hope in an everafter that will be a joy for all who come to know Alma there.

Running into Alma at Maryview was always a bright spot in my day and I know for all of our patients and families. She was a beautiful lady with a beautiful heart and engaging personality. I was fortunate to have known her.
