Elinor Breeding Obituary

Todd Lee Breeding VIRGINIA BEACH - Elinor Todd Lee Breeding, 78, went to be with our Lord Nov. 8, 2008. You may know her as the ever faithful older lady walking her two large dogs around the Virginia Beach Courthouse complex each day, sometimes with her scooter-driving husband or grandkids in tow. You might know her as someone who enjoyed local politics, the Tidewater Winds and local horse affairs. You might know her as the active lady first at Zion Grace, then later Nimmo United Methodist Church who still wore a hat to services. But we knew her as a devoted grandmother who seldom missed our band concerts, sporting events, or scouting functions and who shared her love of animals from large to small. We knew her as the wonderful Mom who taught us good morals, responsibility, faith and love. A mom who learned to ride a horse in her 40s, earned her green thumb in her 50s, drive a red stick-shift convertible in her 60s and after being alone for decades to find happiness in marriage again in her 70s. As a wife, she became a soul mate, an eager traveler and caregiver. We will all miss her ready smile, the heartfelt praise and the wise counsel which would always make everything all right. Me Ma, Mom or Sweetie, we will all miss you deeply, but we are comforted that you are in the loving arms of the Lord. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of seven years, Robert D. Breeding; three sons and spouses, Donn Lee and wife Freya, David Lee and wife Tammy and Eric Lee and wife Sherri; a daughter, Elinor Lee Cunniff; a brother, Maurice Newton and wife Ruby; six grandchildren, Kristen Moore and husband Michael and his son Dalton, Kaitlyn Lee, Rachel Lee, Tyler Cunniff, Parker Lee, Shelby Cunniff; a sister-in-law, Peggy Newton; and a stepson, Russell Breeding. She was preceded in death by her parents, A. Judson Newton Sr. and Nell Little; a brother, A. Judson Newton Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Elaine L. Bunn. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Nimmo United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA, Norfolk Zoo or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To all of Mrs Breedings family, I wanted to tell you that I happened upon your loved one's accident, a few moments after it happened. I am a nurse, and another nurse came along also, there was also a gentlemen, who tried to help. I'd like to thank them for there concern also. I've always believed that one of the last things that our patients lose is their hearing, so we made sure to tell Mrs Breeding that help was on the way and that her family loved her. I would love to think that she heard us, and from what I have seen and heard she was well loved. I truly believe she did not suffer and we tried to keep her comfortable till help arrived. I am really sorry for your loss, and that maybe it helps to know this.
