Richard Palmer Obituary


Richard R. Palmer CHESAPEAKE - Richard R. Palmer, 74, of the 1500 block of Linden Ave., passed away Nov. 10, 2008. A native of Ayden, N.C., he worked in custodial services for the City of Virginia Beach school system and retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Palmer was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Powell; his father, Jonas Palmer; one sister, Dorothy Crumble; five brothers, Starley Palmer, James Palmer, Johnny Palmer, Milton Palmer and Willie Palmer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dorothy Palmer; one daughter, Jacqueline Merriwether; six sons, Ronnie Palmer, James Palmer, Richard Palmer, Dallas Palmer, Derrick Palmer and Nathaniel Palmer; two sisters, Annie Thigpen and Brenda Gregg; three brothers, Burtrice Palmer, Jesse Palmer and Clifton Palmer; and a host of grand- and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. James Missionary Church, 5724 Old Providence Road, Virginia Beach. The Rev. Sidney L. Davis, pastor, and Bishop Melvin E. Stackhouse will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive relatives and friends for remembrance and visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Beach Funeral Services Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
