Jerome Carmody Obituary


Jerome Thomas Carmody NORFOLK - Jerome Thomas "Coach" Carmody, 70, of the Ocean View section of Norfolk, passed away Nov. 30, 2008, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. He was the son of the late Lt. Cmdr. Harry T. Carmody and Louise H. Carmody. He retired from the Norfolk Fire Department as a captain. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Council 3548 and the American Legion Post 327. Capt. Carmody is survived by his daughter, Michelle C. Wood; two sons, Jerome D. Carmody and wife Mary and Rory W. Carmody; and a brother, John M. Carmody and wife Elizabeth, all of Norfolk. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Shannon, Thomas, Meghan and Emma; his niece, Corinne; and his nephew, Paul. He was predeceased by his son, Michael T. Carmody. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father W. Daniel Beeman officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Athletic Association c/o Peggy Barney at Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the American Heart Association. I remember Coach go way back to the "Fr Kealey" inv BB tourney 1974.We were underdog to HT,and won by a slim margin,there were no losers that day.It was a well learned lesson in winning...from both ends of the court. God Bless you Coach!
