Edward Jones Obituary


Edward Jones CHESAPEAKE - Edward Jones, 84, of School House Road, passed away Nov. 30, 2008, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Born in Norfolk County, Virginia, he was the son of the late E.L. Jones and Bernice Sykes Jones. He was predeceased by son, Charles A. Jones; sister, Ruby Brown; and brother, Leon Jones. Eddie was a member of Centerville Baptist Church where he was the secretary of Sunday schools for 40 years. He was a planner/estimator for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a band leader for 40 years, playing the drums with the Eddie Jones and his Southern Rhythm Boys, the Four C's and the Nighthawks. Eddie loved fishing and camping at Hatteras Island, N.C., where all of his children and grandchildren joined him every year. He loved to talk about his family and was very proud of them. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Eunice Mae Jones of Chesapeake; three sons, Elmer L. Jones and wife Sharon, Benny G. Jones and wife Janet and Gary F. Jones and wife Tracey; six grandchildren, Tonya Jones and husband Bobby, Edward L. Jones and wife Jessica, Benny G. Jones Jr., Jamie Brown, Audra Brown and Ted Brown; six great-grandchildren, Trip Jones, Sarah Jones, Lauren Jones, Lily Jones, Ethan Lucas "Luke" Jones and Canna Meinertzhagen; a brother, Claude E. Jones. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Centerville Baptist Church, Chesapeake. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The viewing will begin today with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centerville Baptist Church, 908 Centerville Turnpike S., Chesapeake, VA 23322.
