Hazel Jones Obituary


Hazel Lulaia Jones PORTSMOUTH - Hazel Lulaia Jones, 89, of the 400 block of Norcum Circle, was called home to be with the Lord Dec. 2, 2008. Mrs. Jones was born in North Carolina to the late Lonnie and Estelle Joyner. She attended Cressy High School and Elizabeth City State University. She retired from the Portsmouth public school system as a substitute teacher in 1988 with 25 years of service. As a member of Third Baptist Church, she served with the Usher Board, the Jolley Workers and the Chrysanthemum Tent. Mrs. Jones leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Thomas Charles Jones; three sons, Clarence Clifton Jones, Haywood Leo Jones (Caroline), Sherwood Lewis Jones (Barbara); two sisters, Ethel Dickens of New York and Alee Newsome of North Carolina. She will also be missed by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her oldest son, Thomas Charles Jones Jr. Viewing will be held from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Third Baptist Church, 461 Godwin St., Portsmouth, where Dr. Joseph B. Fleming is senior pastor. Pastor Joseph A. Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com.
