Elsbury Williams Obituary


Elsbury W. Williams CHESAPEAKE - Elsbury Whedbee "Whit" Williams, 83, died Dec. 4, 2008, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. Mr. Williams was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, the son of the late George Taylor Williams and Nancye Whedbee Williams and was the husband of 60 years to Kathleen Gregory Williams. Mr. Williams graduated from Louisburg College and was the owner of Whit Williams Inc. for 40 years. He was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church. Mr. Williams was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean War. Besides his loving wife, Mr. Williams is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Williams Kester and husband James of Gastonia, N.C.; a son, Roger Charles Williams and wife Vickie of Suffolk; sister, Margaret Rodriguez of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Michelle, Kristen, Adam, Joshua, Jeffrey and Jessica; and one great-grandchild, Bethany. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City. Burial will follow in Koen Cemetery.
