Marjorie Kelly Obituary


Marjorie M. Kelly NORFOLK - Marjorie McGuire Kelly, 85, passed away Dec. 2, 2008. She was born in Conshohocken, Pa., July 5, 1923, to the late Charles and Margaret McGuire. Marge was predeceased by her sister, Mildred McCoy and her brother, Charles McGuire Jr., and by her husband, U.S. Navy Capt. Monroe Kelly Jr. Marge married Monroe Kelly Jr. Aug. 27, 1942, in Miami. As the wife of a naval officer, she resided in Annapolis, Norfolk, Coronado, California, Washington, D.C., London and Virginia Beach, which became their permanent residence when they bought a home at the Oceanfront in the 1950s. They were longtime members of the Princess Anne Country Club and Marge, being a great dancer and having a terrific voice, is remembered by many of her friends as the center of the Saturday night entertainment. Marge was a longtime co-owner of the Three Gulls Gift Store at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. In 1991, she moved to Greenfield, Mass., to live with her daughter and returned to this area in 2004. Marge is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Lane Kelly of Greenfield, Mass.; her son, Monroe Kelly III and his wife Marietta S. Kelly of Norfolk; and two granddaughters, Megan Lane Kelly of Norfolk and Kathleen Kelly Hogan and her husband James R. Hogan of Richmond, Va. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Granby Street, Norfolk, by the Rev. Robert Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6315 North Center Drive, Suite 233, Norfolk, VA 23502. H.D.
