Alejandro Cortista Obituary


Alejandro D. Cortista CHESAPEAKE - Alejandro Dial Cortista, 62, of the 3400 block of Maori Drive, died Dec. 1, 2008, in Georgetown University Hospital. Alejandro, a native of Cavite City, Philippines, retired from the U.S. Navy as a MS1 with 20 years of service, including four years at the White House, Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Cavite Association and St. Therese's Catholic Church. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jacob. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Marie Cortista; three daughters, Rosalinda D. Spence of Arizona, Catherine D. Mang and husband Chom of Kentucky, Sarah D. Cortista of Norfolk; four grandchildren; five sisters, including Cora Armbrust and husband Lonnie; five brothers, including Rudy Cortista and wife Eliza of Chesapeake; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Therese's Catholic Church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, by the Rev. Robert L. Cummins. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with U.S. Navy honors. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass and at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
