Annette Cook Obituary

Annette Cook VIRGINIA BEACH - Annette Cook, 60, passed away Dec. 7, 2008, in her Virginia Beach home. She is survived by her husband, James W. "Jim" Cook and two daughters, Kristen Arnett and Megan Cook. Other surviving family members, all of Pittsburgh, include mother, Ann Maceikis; two brothers, William "Bill" Maceikis and James "Jim" Maceikis; two sisters-in-law, Mary Maceikis and Kathy Maceikis; three nieces, Rachel Maceikis, Julie Maceikis and Lauren Maceikis; one nephew, Brett Maceikis; son-in-law, Adam Arnett; and future son-in-law, Brian Ashead. Annette was godmother to Julie Maceikis as well as Shannon Fausnaugh. She married Jim Cook in December 1973 and they cherished nearly 35 years together. Annette was a devoted wife and mother. She was a consummate teacher, both in life and at Virginia Beach City Public Schools for 36 ½ years. Annette was truly a selfless person with a generous spirit, a warm laugh and a giving personality. She battled cancer for 18 ½ years and while doing so was an advocate for other cancer patients and an inspiration to all those who knew her. She loved reading, the beach and animals, especially her 20-pound "grey marshmallow," Kitty Nupkins. Annette will be missed dearly. She was a committed member of Ascension Church for nearly 35 years. The family will receive friends Saturday at a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. in Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
