William O'Brien Obituary


William K. O'Brien SUFFOLK - William Kevin O'Brien, 49, passed away Dec. 9, 2008, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital after a long, courageous battle with melanoma cancer. He was born in Queens, N.Y., and raised on Long Island. He was a retired chief in the U.S. Navy after 23 years, serving in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He later worked for the Military Sealift Command in Virginia Beach. He was a member of VFW Post No. 9382. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. O'Brien and son, Kevin Joseph O'Brien, along with a large loving family. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Route 17, Suffolk. The burial with full military honors will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to VFW Post No. 9382, 4301 Pughsville Road, Suffolk, VA 23435. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
