Shirley Moore Obituary


Shirley Edwards Moore CHESAPEAKE - Shirley Mae Edwards Moore, 59, passed away Dec. 11, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. Born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Shirley was the daughter of Clarence J. and Nannie Mae Pond Edwards. Shirley served as office assistant at Little's Supermarket, Smithfield, for a number of years. She graduated from Longwood College and retired as an elementary school teacher with 33 years of service from the Chesapeake City Schools. In her retirement, Shirley enjoyed computer games and scrapbooking. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Portsmouth Ward. In addition to her parents, Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Robert "Bobby" L. Moore; her daughter, Meredith K. Rager and her husband Jonathan of Chesapeake; two granddaughters, Trinity Marie Rager and Serenity Mae Rager; her sister, Mary Lou Shelton and her husband Clyde of Prince George; and a special niece, Courtney Christine Shelton. A service celebrating Shirley's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, with Bishop Pat Fly officiating. Burial will follow in Central Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, 5349 Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA 23502 or to the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431.
