Annie Maclin-Taylor Obituary

Annie O. Maclin-Taylor PORTSMOUTH - Annie Odessa Maclin-Taylor, the warrior, worshipper and worker, of the 1400 block of Parker Ave., finished her earthly pilgrimage at home Dec. 10, 2008. She was beloved by family, friends and a multitude of people she helped, mentored and encouraged, especially her "spiritual" babies. Although a native of Gold Point, N.C., she spent most of her adult life in Norfolk and then Portsmouth, working as a cosmetologist, a teacher and in later years a licensed counselor. She worked her way through, then, Norfolk State College, on to Virginia State (College) University and finally Old Dominion University, where she earned a master's degree. She will be sorely missed by her only child, Peggy Britt; three grandchildren, "Toni" Scott (Alvin), Marvin Childs (Nia) and Wellington Britt; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Davis and Evelyn Haskins; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family members, both natural and spiritual. A member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church for many years, her homegoing service will be held there Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.

Pastor Britt, it is with uttermost respect and gratitude that my wife and I salute and celebrate the Home going of your mother. There are no words to describe the impact she had on our lives. To live is Christ and to die is gain. She has received her reward! Run-on my sister and brother...there is a heavenly host cheering you on! Destiny is awaiting you!

I recall Saturdays sitting at Ms. Odessas kitchen table waiting on the peach cobbler to finish cooking, & listening to Boo play the drums on oatmeal boxes, bible study in the living room & the maroon uniforms the Philharmonics wore. But most of all, her smile. Leading souls to Christ was her mission. I know she has "anchored her soul at the Haven of Rest"

Dearest Peggy and family,
I was very saddened to hear the news of your mother's passing. I know there is not a lot that can be said at this time to ease the pain but know God will take care of you. Without a doubt, you know your mother is rejoicing with the Lord in heaven. You have always been a joy to be around and I know you have many of your mother's qualities. Remembering things she has said or done will sometime bring a smile to your face and will sometimes bring a tear. But through it all, God will be there every step of the way. I am praying for you and I pray your strength in the Lord. I love you.

Peggy,

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed. My prayers are with you and you family during the homegoing celebration for Ms. Maclin. She has been a blessing to so many people and now she is resting with the Lord and the feast of the Lord is going on.

Peggy, Toni, Marvin and Boo,

Sister Maclin is rejoicing in Heaven with the King! A Pillar of Godliness is how I remember her. Though many years have passed, I still refer to her in my Sunday school class, my teaching my girls in Awana and my kids in KidZ Church and as a many an example in Bible study discussions. There are certain songs that I hear that bring her memory to my mind as well. She was loved by so many. I thank God for the privilege and honor of knowing her, serving with her (as a child) and loving her. What a blessing she was! I am sorry that I could not be at her homegoing...what a time of rejoicing not sadness! Love you all.

Peggy:
I was so sad to hear about my 4th grade teacher. I loved her dearly and will miss her much. Although sympathy is a small consolation, I extend it to you. God has already promised that she is 'okay.' Tuff sends his condolenses to his former basketball player and friend, Britt.

I understand your walk for I had to walk the same walk alone. Remember God's strength will get you through. Mrs. Maclin was part of my village.

Peggy,It is always sad to lose someone as beloved as Sis Maclin. Our consolatin is knowing  she's in  her "Haven of Rest."I count it both a privilege and an honor to have spent many hours  in my young christian life in fellowship with her. She always encouraged me to do the right thing and to live and sing for the Lord,(whether I did it or not). She always modeled Godliness and the comeliness of praise. She taught me to overtly worship and praise Jesus because He's Worthy. So in her going home to be with Him, praise is due. Though I'm a little sad, I'm also rejoicing. Please know that my love and prayers are with you and your famliy. As she would say, "Go Ye."

Elder:
The news of your mom's passing saddened me, because I loved her as if she were my mom too. I wish I had been able to spend more time with her and learning from her. The encouraging part is that she was a great woman of God and a soldier, who left behind an awesome, powerful legacy and that legacy includes ANOTHER powerful woman of God--you. Be encouraged, strengthened and continue to shadow the legacy that she has left behind. I love you dearly, my sister, my friend, my fellow elder and co-laborer in the Lord. Be blessed. Your family and all who were touched by her life remain in my prayers.

Peggy,
Getting the word that your mom and my mentor has gone home with the Lord both saddens and brings joy to my heart. She was one of a kind in so many different ways.
From her love for the Lord, people and especially those not yet a part of His family; to her passion for music, learning, teaching, counseling, and her desire to see people free in the Spirit Mrs. Macklin-Taylor set herself apart as a true woman of God.

May the comfort and peace of God be with and sustain you and your family,
