William Smith Obituary


William E. Smith Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Elder William Edward Smith Jr., 96, of the 3400 block of Silina Drive, was called home Dec. 13, 2008. He was a native of Richmond. In 1977, he retired as a warehouse worker from A&P Grocery with 35 years of service. In 2006, he retired from Food Lion with 22 years of service. Elder Smith was a member of The Pentecostal Church of God, Norfolk. He also pastored the local assembly for many years, as well as in Smithfield, Va., Plymouth, N.C., and Beulaville, N.C. Elder Smith is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise Smith; two daughters, Jean Goode of Richmond and Geraldine Bullock (Benjamin) of Richmond; five sons, William Smith III, Gilbert Smith Sr. (Mildred) of Richmond, Reginald Smith of Plantation, Fla., the Rev. Joseph M. Cherry Sr. (Tammy), the Rev. William T. Cherry (Priscilla), both of Virginia Beach; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at noon in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, with the Rev. Joseph M. Cherry Sr. officiating. Beach Funeral Services Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
