Tony Pogorelec Obituary


Tony J. Pogorelec CHESAPEAKE - Tony Joseph Pogorelec went to be with the Lord Jan. 14, 2009. Born in Chisholm, Minn., Feb. 1, 1918, he was the son of the late Anton and Frances Pogorelec and was predeceased by his wife, Jean V. Pogorelec. Tony was retired from the United States Navy, where he was a veteran of World War II. He later retired as a member of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Tiger Team. He is survived by a son, David S. Pogorelec and his wife the Rev. Marie G. Pogorelec of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, David M. Pogorelec and his wife Kelly of Virginia Beach and Courtney M. Greene and her husband Lake of Chesapeake; two sisters, Marge Nidelkoff and Dorothy Magajina of Minnesota; two brothers, Joe Pogorelec and Jim Pogorelec of Minnesota; and a number of nephews and nieces residing in Florida, Minnesota and New York. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 East Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. The Rev. Randy Wooden will officiate. The viewing will begin Sunday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The family would especially like to express their deep appreciation to Linda Arrington and the entire staff of the Allzwell Assisted Living Center of Chesapeake, where he resided for the last two years and received such loving care. The family would also like to extend their thanks to the Chesapeake Regional Home Care Hospice Team that made his final departure a comfortable and peaceful event.
