Kyle Williams Obituary

Kyle G. Williams VIRGINIA BEACH - Kyle G. Williams passed away Jan. 19, 2009. Kyle was born in Richmond, Va., on May 14, 1955, and raised in Sandston, Va. She was the first daughter of the late Russell "Jack" Gooch and Yvonne Gooch, who currently resides in Richmond. Kyle was a loving wife, mother and daughter. She dedicated her life to teaching in the Virginia Beach school system, receiving multiple Teacher of the Year awards including Citywide Reading Teacher of the Year 2008. Kyle was a high school cheerleader who went on to graduate from Mary Washington College. There she met her future husband Alan on a blind date while he was attending the University of Virginia. The two relocated to Virginia Beach and began their family life together. Kyle went on to earn her master's degree in reading from The College of William & Mary. Following the birth of their first son, Craig, and a 12-year teaching hiatus, she returned to teaching at Princess Anne Elementary School and was awarded Teacher of the Year. After several years at Princess Anne, Kyle moved to Red Mill Elementary and spent the remainder of her career as the reading specialist. While Kyle was a consummate teacher in and out of school, she managed to find time to indulge in her favorite actives such as water skiing, snow skiing, swimming and cheering on her children in sports. She also never missed an opportunity to spend time with family in the Outer Banks. Kyle is survived by her husband of 31 years, Alan; two sons, Craig and his wife Kathleen and Brandon and his wife Katie; mother, Yvonne Gooch of Richmond; sister, Kimberly Bram and her husband Craig of Richmond; brother, Mark Gooch and wife Susan of Midlothian, Va.; in-laws, Bill and Kathleen Williams of York County, Virginia; nieces, Kendall, Kelly, Jocelyn and Megan; nephews Ryan and Alex; and two special canine friends, Oprah and Frankie. A funeral will be held today at Nimmo United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach at 1 p.m. A celebration of Kyle's life will take place at the Williams' residence immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations to Red Mill Elementary School to support the reading program. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

Dear Alan, Craig and Brandon,
Please always cherish your wonderful memories of Kyle and your Mom. I never saw her without that HUGE smile on her face. She was a wonderful person. We enjoyed all those baseball games here and on the road with the kids. Those were the good times. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

We moved from Va Beach in the summer of 2007, but have wonderful memories of our kids' years at Red Mill. My first memory of Kyle was when my daughter, August, was in K, and had a difficult time saying goodbye to me in the mornings. When Kyle was on hall duty, she would step right in and gently head her down the hall toward class. Kyle then worked with August through most of 1st grade in a reading group. I remember August coming home and telling me, "I go to a really nice lady who lets us read, then gives us candy." Lastly, our last year at RME, I was responsible for decorating teachers' doors for their birthdays. It was so nice to see her smiling face on those early mornings when the halls were quiet and no one was around. She talked of you all frequently, and loved her family and pets so much.

We are so very sorry for your loss, and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I so appreciated Kyle's kindness and dedication, and know how much she will be missed.

Sincerely,
The Seward Family

Alan and boys, I'm so sorry to hear about Kyle. We go way back to when the boys all played baseball together and Kyle giving Jayme swimming lessons. Just living in the same neighborhood and watching our kids grow, being in some of the same clubs. She was an amazing woman and always smiling and happy to see you. I'm so sorry you have lost your wife and mother, I'm sure she is looking down and thanking you for the wonderful life she had with you here on earth. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Although we did not know Mrs. Williams personally, we, as a Red Mill Elementary family, were blessed by her dedication to our children. Our daughter is saddened by her passing and relates to us that she never knew that she was ill and was a great teacher. We pray for you and your family.
