Billy Don Genes VIRGINIA BEACH - Billy Don "Genes" Genes, a 75-year-old resident of Virginia Beach, passed away after a brief illness Jan. 14, 2009. He was born to the late Bessie Genes and a native of Ripley, Miss. He was preceded in death by his mother; son, Billy Jr.; and two sisters. He retired from the U.S. Navy with more than 20 years of honorable and faithful service. He also reached another milestone and retired from the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, after 22 years. Not one to sit idle, he went on to work for the United Parcel Service in Virginia Beach and later took a position working for the Virginia Beach public school system until he finally decided to remain retired. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Genes; one son, Michael Genes of Savannah, Ga.; a stepson, Cleveland D. Johnson of Philadelphia; a stepdaughter, Roberta Wright of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Parrott and Linda Sneed; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, extended family and friends. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk. Interment will be in Albert G.
