Jeanne Rabinowitz Obituary

Jeanne M. Rabinowitz VIRGINIA BEACH - Jeanne M. Rabinowitz died Jan. 28, 2009. She was 67 years old. As a member of the "Lost Class of 1959" at Maury High School, Jeanne Davis joined a number of the Ghent neighborhood students who took a ferry to Portsmouth for schooling. Jeanne began her career in travel as a stewardess for National Airlines. As trip coordinator of the Mogul Ski Club and founding organizer of the annual JCC holiday ski trip for more than two decades, she introduced numerous Tidewater families to skiing. She continued to plan trips for CI Travel and was an active member of the Norfolk Chapter of ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation and Training). Family and friends enjoyed Jeanne's high-flying enthusiasm. Last to leave the dance floor and first to lob from the baseline, Jeanne's spirit and style remain an inspiration. She is survived by her husband, attorney, Ralph Rabinowitz; son, Ned Asher Rabinowitz; daughter, Cay Sophie Rabinowitz and her husband Christian Rattemeyer; son, Erik Rabinowitz, his wife Kourtney and daughters, Hannah Renee and Rosalyn Jeanne; sister, Frances Levy Birshstein; and niece, Debbie Eken. The family especially thanks Jeanne's caregivers: Dr. William Cooper, Dr. Richard Wright, Eve Patterson, Gail Sampson, Verna Logan, Josephine Manipon, Sandra Madison, Sandra Knight and LaVonia Foreman. We treasure Jeanne's memory and remain awed by her courageous battle with ALS. Donations may be made to Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. The funeral will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in Congregation Beth El, 422 Shirley Ave., Norfolk, by Rabbi Authur Ruberg and Cantor Gordon Piltck. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.
