Madie Chappell Obituary

Madie L. Chappell HERTFORD - Madie Lane Chappell, 90, formerly of 362 Swing Gate Road, died Jan. 27, 2009, in South Haven Manor Nursing Home. Born in Perquimans County, she was the widow of Clarence Silas Chappell and the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ethel Trueblood Lane. Mrs. Chappell was a homemaker and a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a member of Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Lois Anne and Owen Peters of Guntersville, Ala., and Suzette and Horace Bell of Currituck; three sons and their wives, Clarence Benjamin "C.B." and Jean Chappell of Morehead City, William Lane "Bill" and Sharon Chappell and Douglas Oral and Rita Chappell, all of Hertford; three sisters, Henrietta Stallings of Hertford, Alice Bea Riddick of Belvidere and Barbara Bunch of Suffolk; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bessie Ann Meads and Maggie Perry. The family will receive friends in Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Douglas Chappell, 520 White Hat Road, Hertford. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Swindell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Preston Pitchford officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
