Linwood Wilkins Obituary

Linwood H. Wilkins PORTSMOUTH - Linwood H. Wilkins, 97, formerly of the Mount Herman section of Portsmouth, entered into eternal rest Jan. 29, 2009. He was born July 3, 1911, to the late Plummer Sr. and Rebecca F. Wilkins of Norfolk County. He was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 03, after 37 years and was a groundsman for Internal Medicine of Portsmouth for 22 years. He was a member of Mount Herman Civic League, Lily of the Valley Lodge No. 89 and PHA Mason. Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice T. Wilkins. Survivors include twin daughters, Lesa W. Richardson and Linda W. Long; niece, Marlene Woody; adopted son, Shelton Riddick; sister-in-law, Aurelia Williams; brother-in-law, Elder Samuel Moore; grandchildren, Mia Mayers (Nicholas), James Long III, Michael Richardson Jr., Madia Autrey and Lydia Jefferson; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A viewing will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. Celebration services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Grove Baptist Church, 5910 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, where Dr. Melvin O. Marriner is senior pastor. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Wilson and staff, caregivers, Bell's RAC and Bon Secours Hospice.
