Mary Oleynik Obituary

Mary C. Oleynik VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Catanese Oleynik, 86, passed away Jan. 30, 2009, in a local hospital. Mrs. Oleynik was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Virginia Beach since 1978. She was the wife of the late Charles Jacob Oleynik. She had studied fashion design at Pratt Institute, and later she became a real estate agent and had worked several years for Pyle Realty. She was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and can now rest with Momma, Papa, Tutti, Lillie and Gina, who all preceded her in death. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed. She referred to her loving nephews as "The Boys," as they were very close to her. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Butler and her husband Bill of Norfolk; one son, James Charles Oleynik and his wife Dianne; one brother, Peter Catanese, both of Virginia Beach; one sister, Ida Bono of Floral Park, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Cathy Butler and her husband Daniel Kuzmick of McKinleyville, Calif., Lindsey Bishop and her husband Justin of Mechanicsville, Va., and Shannon Butler of Richmond, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Ruby Butler-Kuzmick; as well as nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held in Star of the Sea Catholic Church Tuesday at 3 p.m. Interment will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.
