Carmen Reid Obituary

Carmen M. Reid BATH - Carmen Marie Reid, 65, passed away at her home in Bath, Feb. 1, 2009. Born to the late George S. and Doris Collins on Nov. 4, 1943, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Originally from the Washington, D.C., area, Carmen and Beau married on March 3, 1962. They moved to Corolla, N.C., in 1984, where they shared their greatest memories. They also lived Martin's Point, N.C., before moving to Bath. She is survived by her husband, Anthony L. (Beau) Reid; two sons, Kenneth W. and Scott D. Reid, their wives Laura L. and Dawn R. Reid; two granddaughters, Kaitline Lyndsay and Ashley Nichole Reid; one grandson, Dillon Scott Reid; two brothers, Donald N. Collins and wife Sharon and Michael Collins and wife Sharen; one sister, Janet Terry; and one special sister, Naureen Collins, wife of Carmen's late brother, Edward W. Collins. Carmen loved life and loved people. She loved talking to people who loved to listen, and listen to people, who loved to talk. She loved her conservative politics, and Redskins football. She loved having her hair done at Val's Beauty Shop in Washington, N.C., because it reminded her of her favorite movie, Steel Magnolias, and she loved the people she met there. She was owner and manager of CMR Construction and along with her husband, Beau, they built many homes in North Carolina. She loved the people and subcontractors she met on a daily basis. She loved crabbing with her grandchildren off their dock in Bath. She also loved her annual Smith Mountain Lake vacation week. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Thanksgiving, because they were the biggest family get-togethers, and she loved being with family. Carmen will be greatly missed, as she touched so many lives and was an inspiration to all who knew her. For all who knew Carmen, celebrate her life, for it truly was a wonderful life. A communion service will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, with the Rev. Mister Donald Wobser officiating Friday at 1 p.m. There will also be visitation Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Although it was a brief encounter, she loved Dr. Jennie Crews, so in lieu of flowers, please send donations in Carmen Marie Reid's name to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is assisting the family with arrangements. Visit www.twifordfh.com to sign the online register.

Even though I had not see Carmen in a while I will never forget her. We used to have the best times at Karen Cooke's home playing the "Supremes". It was Eileen Kavanaugh, Carmen, Karen Cooke, and I who dressed up and sang at one of the many New Year's Eve parties at Denny and Karen's home. I know how special she was to her family. My deepest sympathies go out to her family.
