Ruth Williams Obituary

Ruth C. Williams PORTSMOUTH - Ruth Choate Williams, 83, of the 1500 block of Maple Ave., died Feb. 4, 2009, in her residence. She was a widow of Otis L. Williams. She was a member of Emanuel AME Church, Portsmouth. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Alicia King (Reginald) of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Jacqueline C. Long and Sara Choate Brown; two brothers, Donald L. Choate and Russell B. Choate (Malvise) of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and sister-in-law, Virgie Choate. She was predeceased by her mother, Willie Essie Choate and father, James L. Choate. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Emanuel AME Church, Portsmouth, with the Rev. Granger Flythe presiding. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing will begin today at noon. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, is in charge. Family will be at the residence.
