Andrew Menefee Obituary

Andrew B. Menefee CHESAPEAKE - Andrew Bryan Menefee, 81, passed away Feb. 10, 2009. He was a native of Mancos, Colo., and was a son of the late Sylvester and Stella Menefee. He was predeceased by wife Barbara June Menefee. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Menefee and significant other Robert of Franklin, Va.; a son, Stephen Menefee and wife Diana; two grandsons, A.J. and Tyler; a sister, Beverly Wheeler and a brother Walter Menefee. Our father had a passion for knowledge and felt education should be a primary part of your life. He started his quest for education in a one-room schoolhouse, The Menefee School, which was actually built by his relatives. He graduated at 16 and was enlisted in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, our father became a biochemical electrical engineer and did that for a number of years. During those years, he also became adept at investments especially in the real estate market. Later he decided to change professions and became a dentist. Most people would have had trouble going back to school later in their life but our father relished the change to educate himself and succeed in another career. He was the oldest one in his dental class at Loma Linda University and in fact we were told one of the oldest in the nation but it was no surprise that he would graduate as one of the top students in his class. He was always incredibly modest about his accomplishments and had a hard time accepting praise. Our father believed in honesty and lived his life that way. His patients would move and drive miles back to his practice because they could trust him and knew that because he was such a perfectionist his work on them would be good. At times he would find out that patient was struggling through some hard times financially so he would adjust their bill accordingly. Our father started life with very little and worked hard to become the successful man he was. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of education, working hard to achieve something you want and honesty. We will miss him very much and thank him for the lessons in life he left with us. We would like to thank all of the people at Colonial Home for treating our father so well during the last part of his life. The peace of the Lord be with your family.
Dr. Menefee, I have fond memories of your Dad And Mom over the past 13 years. One I would like to share is when at Christmas time, your Dad would meet me at the mailbox and give me a box of Chocolate. I thought this was different, yet special coming from a retired Dentist. I guess it's O K to have your chocolate and enjoy the sweet things in life. Andrew & Barbara were a true joy to know and I will miss them.
