Norman Walters Obituary

Norman P. Walters VIRGINIA BEACH - Norman Preston Walters, 96, known lovingly to family as "Normps," peacefully went to his eternal rest Feb. 14, 2009. Born in Olive Hill, Ky., he was raised in Milwaukee, by Amy and Tom Walters. He left his wife and young son when he enlisted in the Army during World War II and was wounded in Germany receiving the Purple Heart, American Theater and Central European Ribbons with two Bronze Stars. After spending five years in Army hospitals, recovering from his war injuries he worked for and became co-owner of Plywood Inc. and Clint's Hardware and Building Supplies for many years. He loved Milwaukee and especially loved fishing and hunting deer up in northern Wisconsin. Upon the death of his wife, Beverly, in 1992, he moved to Virginia Beach to be near family who welcomed him with open arms! He had a whole second chapter to his long life living at the Atria and had many friends there who will also miss him. He was an "Ambassador" and on the Ambassador Committee and joined in all the activities offered including water color painting at age 92! They lovingly referred to him as the "Mayor." He also wrote a monthly, "Norm's Catchy Corner," for the Atria newsletter. They were his second family. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his only son, David Walters, his wife Carol; two grandchildren, D.J. Walters and Vikki Walters Camp and her husband, Ed Camp; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Asa, Elizabeth, David III "Trey" and Emilee. The family would like to thank Laurie and the wonderful loving nursing staff on 2nd floor, "Father loved all of you." A memorial service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 424 Kings Grant Road, Virginia Beach. Interment will be at a later date in Christ Church, Whitefish Bay, Wis. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Columbarium Fund" at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 424 Kings Grant Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
