Elizabeth L. Sawyer

Elizabeth L. Sawyer CHESAPEAKE - Elizabeth Louise Leet Sawyer, 86, died Feb. 18, 2009. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Long Acre, W.Va., to the late Lake Pearl and DeWitt T. Leet. She retired from C&P Telephone of Virginia after 55 years of service, was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a life member of C.W.A. Mrs. Sawyer was an avid fisherman and a member of the Sand Witch Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Mearl J. Sawyer and her son, Robert T. Churchill. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Rachel Heath Churchill of Chesapeake; sisters, Frances Shortridge of Chesapeake, Dorothy Anne Pierce of Virginia Beach, Reta Reid of Chesapeake; brother, Donald J. Leet of Covington, Va.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. with the funeral to follow with the Rev. W.G. Beagle officiating.
