Elizabeth Sawyer Obituary

Elizabeth L. Sawyer CHESAPEAKE - Elizabeth Louise Leet Sawyer, 86, died Feb. 18, 2009. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Long Acre, W.Va., to the late Lake Pearl and DeWitt T. Leet. She retired from C&P Telephone of Virginia after 55 years of service, was a member of Poplar Branch Baptist Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a life member of C.W.A. Mrs. Sawyer was an avid fisherman and a member of the Sand Witch Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Mearl J. Sawyer and her son, Robert T. Churchill. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Rachel Heath Churchill of Chesapeake; sisters, Frances Shortridge of Chesapeake, Dorothy Anne Pierce of Virginia Beach, Reta Reid of Chesapeake; brother, Donald J. Leet of Covington, Va.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. with the funeral to follow with the Rev. W.G. Beagle officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, P.O. Box 2156, Norfolk, VA 23501.
