Virginia Starnes Obituary

Virginia M. Starnes SOUTHERN SHORES - Virginia M. Starnes, 78, passed away Feb. 16, 2009, in her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an educator for 30 years in Norfolk City Schools. She touched the lives of so many young, aspiring students. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and was an active participant of the Ladies' Knitting Circle. They lovingly referred to her as the "Knitting Machine." She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter W. Starnes; her daughter, Cindy Hooker and husband Tommy; granddaughter, Ashley Woodward; great-grandsons, Brett and Taylor; sisters, Ruth Eure and Pattie Ware; a cousin, David Speidell. A celebration of the life of Virginia Starnes will be held in All Saints Episcopal Church Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 40 Pintail Trail, Southern Shores, NC 27949. Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, is assisting the family with arrangements. A dear person, Virginia. I will always remember her kind and warm smile. She was always so generous and friendly. As a young girl, we always enjoyed the road trips to Grandma Sadie's and Granddaddy David's in Norfolk.
