Philip Tigan Obituary

Philip Wayne Tigan DUCK - Philip Wayne Tigan, 71, passed away at his home in Duck, Feb. 17, 2009. Mr. Tigan was born in Rochelle, Ill., March 25, 1937. He was the son of the late Arthur and Margery Tigan and was preceded in death by his brother, William E. Tigan, all formerly of Rochelle. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn B. Tigan; son, Gregory P. Tigan and wife Jeanne of Collegeville, Pa.; daughter, Jill K. Bright and husband Tabor of Stephens City, Va.; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Evan Bright, Philip J. Tigan and stepgrandsons, Ryan, Justin, Kevin and Jeffrey McShane. Mr. Tigan graduated from the University of Illinois in 1959 with a BS degree in accounting. He later earned a master's degree in finance from George Washington University. Following a long and successful career in finance and information services, having worked for The Daughters of Charity in Baltimore, Shared Medical Systems in Malvern, Pa., and DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, he retired as vice president of Information Services for the Medical College of Wisconsin in the year 1999. Philip was a dedicated family man who loved the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He and his wife established a second residence in Duck in 1980 and later retired there in 1999. His love and dedication extended to his faithful canine companion, Sir Bailey of Duck, who passed several years ago. He was an Eagle Scout, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, a proud retiree of the Army National Guard and enjoyed sailing and golfing. A viewing will be held Monday from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Twiford's Funeral Home, 500 Budleigh St., Manteo, NC 27954. A Catholic service will follow at 2 p.m. in Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church, Kitty Hawk, by the Rev. Don Wobser. Visit www.twifordfh.com to sign the online register.
