Marie Reardon Obituary

Marie P. Reardon VIRGINIA BEACH - Marie P. "Rie" Reardon passed away Feb. 20, 2009, at the age of 60, from ovarian cancer. Rie was an angel on earth, a dedicated and loving mother and friend, and the consummate teacher. Rie taught elementary school for 31 years and was named the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (David) Witkowski; her mother, Denise Passagaluppi; her brothers and sisters; and her puppy, Keira. Rie was known for her bright smile and grace. She proved that we should "never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever does." She changed the world through the thousands of students whose lives she improved through her devotion to her family and friends, volunteer work and tutoring. Throughout her life, Rie helped carry everyone she touched in times of need. We want to thank everyone who carried us and gave us the strength to get to this place in Rie's journey where she is now our angel in heaven. We request that donations be made in her honor to the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater (http://ccfot.org.)or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (www.ovarian.org). A visitation will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, and a memorial service will be held at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Jen,
Our family is so saddened to lose Rie. She impacted my youth in very positive ways, and the example she provided made her a great role model. My heart goes out to you because I know how much your mom means to you. Take care; we wish you many blessings.

Jen,
I was saddened to hear about the loss of your Mother. You were fortunate to have such a kind and thoughtful Mother. Not only did she touch the lives of all her students but she raised a thoughtful and mature daughter. Remember she will always be with you.
Sincerely Sandi
