I moved to Va. Beach in 1989.If I wanted to play tennis Guy was the person to contact. He not only got me on a couple of teams but always stayed in touch.I will never forget his laugh and gentle way of working with his teams. He was like a director with a racquet pointing out his wisdom for the game..and you had better follow his lead .You will be missed..It was a pleasure knowing him..

Dear Rule family,

My first experience with guy was watching his play and hoping that I would be as good as he was when I reached his age. His laughter and smile was infectious to all of us! He will be truly missed.

Paul and Mary,
Guy Rule was special to many people, and I consider myself fortunate to be included in that number. His infectuous laugh, positive spirit and true good-heartedness will be missed by all those he touched. The tennis community has lost one of its most ardent advocates and supporter. We all have stories about Guy and those stories will live on. My condolences to you during this very sad time.

To Guy My Dear Friend,

It was just this Tuesday when I visited you last. I knew you were in great pain. I hope you still knew me. You could hardly speak, but when I mentioned tennis and names so dear to you - Karen, Jack, Wayne, Doug - it brought a response. I know you could hear me. I felt that visit may be our last - indeed you were gone the next day. How can we all ever say "thanks" enough for what you did to make our lives so much enjoyable? There in no way. Your son, Paul, was so faithful to visit and support you. Mary, your daughter, was too. It is painful, but yet a joy to think of all our tennis days together. I can still hear that famous voice on my recorder saying some message about tennis, and then hearing, "Guy Rule 466-8325."
You would call sometimes at 11:30 pm. I'll miss you my dear and good friend. But I'll see you again, and when I do I'll bring us a couple tennis rackets.

Guy is the person who got me into captaining when he gave me his beloved 3.0 men's team. His enthusiasm and love of the game made every conversation with him a treasured learning experience. He was the best and I'll miss him.

To the Rule Family,
I was sadden to hear Guy is no longer recruiting tennis players. I was fortunate enough to come under his spell in the late 1980's and be on a team he guided to the Nationals in Palm Springs in 1990 (I think).
He was such a positive force and was always more interested in having fun, than keeping score. I used to kid him, "the best part of his tennis game was his "mouth" and wise cracks he made on the courts."
In his natural , good natured spirit, he was well aware of his verbal prowess over his athleticism, endearing him even more to me.
We will all miss his unforgettable charm and his exceptional ability to bring people together!

To the Rule Family,

Although it was a short time that I knew Mr. Rule, I enjoyed his smile and laughter, his personality really shined brightly in my eyes. When he came to the doctor's office, he always made my day to see him. He will truly be missed and will always hold a special place in my heart. I send my prayers to the family at this time of need and may you find confort knowing that he is in a better place with no pain.
