Mathia Manning Obituary

Mathia B. Manning PORTSMOUTH - Mathia Belle Manning, 75, of the 3300 block of Mascott St., went to eternal rest with the Lord Feb. 25, 2009. Lovingly known as "Macy," she was a wife, mother, homemaker and caregiver who was born in Hemingway, S.C. She was the daughter of the late John and Aleathia Collins. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Johnnie Lee Manning; a son, Peter; a sister, Naomi; and a son-in-law, Henry Cuffee. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a brother, John Collins of Newport News; seven daughters, Melinda Everett and Cynthia Hassan, both of El Paso, Texas, JoAnn Cuffee, Barbara Herron (Derek), Earlene Brooks (George), Thomasina Coles and Cheryl Manning, all of Portsmouth; three sons, William Collins and Earl Manning (Tawanda) of Pawleys Island, S.C., and Tony Manning of Portsmouth. She also leaves behind 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. in J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 North George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, 1445 Centre Ave., Portsmouth, the Rev. Warren Amlet is pastor, with the eulogy being given by Pastor Madgie White, Endtime Church of Deliverance. Interment will be held at Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. Repast will be held at the home of JoAnn Cuffee, 5 Louder Court, Portsmouth. Final care arrangements have been entrusted to J.T. Fisher Funeral Services.
