Garrison Lockwood Obituary

Garrison T. Lockwood LYNCHBURG - Garrison Tankard "Garry" Lockwood, died peacefully Feb. 24, 2009, in Westminster-Canterbury in Lynchburg, Va. He was the devoted husband of Hazel Frances Williams Lockwood for more than 64 years. He was born Sept. 7, 1920, a son of the late Oscar Dudley Lockwood and the late Cora Glace Lockwood. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Pamela Lockwood Rieves and husband Clarence of Harrisonburg; his son, David Garrison Lockwood and wife Denise of Forest; his grandchildren, Richard Rieves and wife Shantelle of Clermont, Fla., Scott Rieves of Harrisonburg, Amy Rieves Mullis and husband Jeremy of Wake Forest, N.C., Angie Lockwood Nail and husband Garrett of Atlanta, Keith Lockwood of Virginia Beach; and his great-grandchildren, Addison Rieves, Hayden Rieves and Ethan Mullis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters. Garry was a former member of Kempsville Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the retired secretary/treasurer of the H.B. Hunter Company in Norfolk. Garry was a former member of the Hampton Roads Beagle Club and Cavalier Hunt Club. The couple moved from Chesapeake to Lynchburg in 2007. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Old City Cemetery Chapel with Dr. Corey Ingold officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium. The family wishes to thank the staff at Westminster-Canterbury for the kindness and care that Garry received. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503. mr. lockwood was not only my resident at WC but he and his wife were my friends. I will miss him alot! I will always remember him as my favorite dancing partner.
