Alan Craddock Obituary

Alan R. Craddock WHITAKERS - Alan Russell Craddock, 51, passed away in his home Feb. 27, 2009, after a short illness. In his father's footsteps, he was a second-generation carpenter. Later in his adult life he followed in his heavenly Father's generation, the Master carpenter, and renewed his faith in the Lord. He enjoyed cooking for and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan and in his younger years he loved to race his red 1966 GTO. Alan believed in helping others and continued to do so after his death through organ donation. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Alan Russell Jones "AJ" of Petersburg, Va.; his daughter, Courtney Marie Craddock and her mother Trish Landi of Whitakers, N.C.; his dog, Digger; a brother, Donald Craddock (Joy) of Courtland, Va.; five sisters, Dorothy Greene (James) of Suffolk, Diane Craddock (Tommy) of Walters, Va., Carol Keefe (Wayne) of Ivor, Va., Sandy Atkins of Suffolk, Anne Timpson (Al) of Heber, Utah; "special sister," Debbie Greene (Carl) of Whitakers; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Melton Craddock Jr.; mother, Ola Marie Craddock; nephew, JJ Wade; and niece, Michele Wade. Since Alan has many longtime friends in the Suffolk and Franklin area there will be two memorial services held. The first service will be held today at Community Baptist Church, 177 Watson St., Enfield, N.C., at 2 p.m. with Pastor Carl Greene and the Rev. Dexter Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Other times the family will receive friends at the Greene residence, 2401 Adcock Road, Whitakers. The second service will be Friday at True Word Christian Church, 1315 Carrsville Hwy., Franklin, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Charles Worth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at other times the Craddock residence, 4392 Cox St., Walters, Va. In remembering Alan in his shortened life, his family encourages you to cherish each day, spend more time with loved ones and renew your faith in God because when this life ends eternity begins. My name is Tanya Johnson and I just wanted to let you know that you have all been in my thoughts and prayers. I am Courtney's bus driver. I will always remember when I would pick up Courtney in the morning, Alan would always have a smile on his face and his little dog in his lap. He would always wave to me and was the friendliest person for me to start my morning.

Alan and I had many memorable moments. This is one of them from the last time Alan was at my house, just a few months ago. We were sitting on the deck in the backyard, and Alan said like always, " Jim you are still selling snacks after all of these years", and before he left he would say " I want you to fix me up a box of chips, candy, and cakes so I can take them home for my kids when they come over. and I would tell Alan like always, that I was sure that they were not just for his kids, because he probably would eat half of them on his way home. This happened several times and we always got a kick out of it....

My deepest sympathies go out to the family. I myself will miss Alan dearly - "my Nascar buddy". Race day will be hard without him. Alan was such a giving and loving person - I am lucky to have been so close to him. I will miss him so very much!
