Doretha Davis Obituary

Doretha Davis PORTSMOUTH - Doretha Davis, 74, of the 200 block of Median Circle, was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. Doretha was born in Salters, S.C., to the late Charlie and Alma Burgess. She was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Tribe of Judah. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Manning Convalescent Nursing Home. Mrs. Davis leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Thomas A. Davis Sr.; four daughters, Janice A. Green, Marion E. Davis, Nannie Davis-Holley and Lelia Davis-Melton; four sons, Thomas A. Davis Jr., Thomas Davis, Willie J. Davis and Benjamin F. Davis; a sister, C. Rebecca Marr; three brothers, Taylor Burgess, Carroll Burgess and John Burgess; 17 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be held Wednesday at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, from 3 until 8 p.m. A life celebration service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth, with Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds Sr., officiating. The family has entrusted J.T. Fisher Funeral Services, to handle the final care arrangements. Condolences can be sent to www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com.
