A fellow high school classmate was kind enough to write me about Vernon, our dear friend. Admittedly, after I thought about how much he will be missed, I immediately thought God certainly has his hands full with Tommy, Herbie, and now Vernon. What a sweet young man he was, and what a wonderful man he became. I had the pleasure of growing up with Vernon beginning at Driver Elementary; I again had the pleasure of knowing him as an adult when we worked briefly together at Virginia National Bank. I live in Tampa, Florida now and will be unable to attend the service which will honor his life; so, I wanted to express my condolences to you, his entire family. May God look over you as He welcomes Vernon into his Heavenly Home. With Christian Love, Lynnette Phelps Hefley

I was deeply saddened to recently hear of Vernon's illness and his death. There are many memories of times spent at the family home while we were growing up, of Bumps and Alice teaching us to dance, boating on Bennett's Creek with Vernon, Tommy and Herbie, and the fun we had at school. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Linda Head McDonough
