Jean Gahagan Obituary

Jean F. Gahagan VIRGINIA BEACH - Jean Fisher Gahagan, beloved wife and mother, passed away too soon Feb. 28, 2009, at the age of 77. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald C. Gahagan, and began homemaking and raising a family of four children. Her life was enriched with many years of community service in Pittsburgh as chairman of the local chapter of Meals on Wheels, volunteering at a local hospital, and tireless involvement in school, church and social functions. Her lifelong dream of living at the beach came true when moving to Virginia nine years ago from Phoenix, Ariz., but she always remained a true Steelers fan. Jean will be forever remembered by many for the generosity of herself to her community, her compassion for animals, her understated elegance, her loving devotion to her family and her bright smile. Jean has left a legacy of undisputed style and grace upon her passing. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Ronald C. Gahagan; her four children, Patti Barnes, wife of Francis V. Barnes, Peggy Gahagan, Pam McIntyre, wife of Jeff McIntyre, Ron Gahagan Jr.; her four grandchildren, Tanya Ripley, Travis Barnes, Russell McIntyre and Emma McIntyre; and her first grandchild, Malakai Barnes. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Dietz of Phoenix and Geri Frederick of Cockeysville, Md. Jean's family is most grateful for the caring attention she received during her stay at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In lieu of flowers and in the true spirit of Jean, the family prefers a donation be made in memory of Jean Gahagan to the Alzheimer's Association, c/o Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach, for the upcoming 2009 Alzheimer's Memory Walk. No service is planned at this time. Cremation Society of Virginia, Virginia Beach office, is assisting the family.
