Frank Adkins Obituary

Frank I. Adkins Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Mr. Frank I. Adkins Jr. died of cancer Feb. 27, 2009. He was born in Welch, W.Va., May 25, 1936. He was raised in Norfolk. He attended Holy Trinity School and graduated from Granby High School. He was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Virginia Tech and was a professional engineer. While at Virginia Tech he was in the swim club and was a cheerleader. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineer's Navy Facilities. Frank also had his own engineering practice. During his career he worked as the first county Engineer for Carteret County, North Carolina. After his retirement from private practice he went to work for BB&T in the commercial loan department and retired as vice president. Frank loved fishing and was a long time member of the Exchange Club. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Adkins; son, Frank I. Adkins III and his wife Jennifer; son, Scott C. Adkins and his wife Martha; and his two granddaughters, Katelyn and Julia. He is also survived by his special friend, Vicki Lang. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, with a memorial service immediately following at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Family will receive friends afterwards at 1014 Briarwood Point.

I've had the good fortune to know Frank for many years; we met while I was working in the City Engineer's Office. He was always friendly, smiling and a pleasure to chat with. Keep him in your heart and he will be with you forever.
