Calvin Smith Obituary

Calvin I. Smith Sr. PORTSMOUTH - Calvin Irving "Smitty" Smith Sr., 74, of the 1300 block of Coltrane Drive, passed away June 10, 2009, in Portsmouth. A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Calvin Smith Sr. retired from the United States Air Force as a master sergeant. He also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and former president of the American Legion Post 190 Portsmouth. Calvin leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Gladys Felecia Mayes and Angela Smith Vass; two sons, Calvin I. Smith Jr. and Rodney A. Smith, all of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Shawn Mayes, Jefferey Smith, Shaquira Holeman and Caleb Smith; a great-grandchild, Jashawna Mayes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parent, his brothers, and his sisters. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Pastor Leroy Hill will be officiating. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Steele-Bullock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Viewing will be held Monday from noon to 7 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 108 Wynn St., Portsmouth, for the procession to the church at 10:15 a.m. Send condolences to steelebullockfuneralhome.com.
