Gayle Douglas Obituary

Gayle L. Douglas VIRGINIA BEACH - Gayle Lane Douglas, 64, of the 3500 block of Seahorse Way, passed into the Lord Friday, May 29, 2009, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was the eldest daughter of the late Capt. David and Wilmine Humphreys born Dec. 20, 1944, in Jacksonville, N.C. She graduated from the University of Hawaii and was a third grade teacher at Brookwood Elementary in Virginia Beach. She was loved by everyone who came into her path especially the little children whom she taught, cared for and loved dearly. Gayle was a practical Christian who was devoted and dedicated to her Presbyterian faith. She loved travelling. She had lived in Nigeria and Spain with her husband of 35 years of marriage. Her survivors include her husband, the Rev. Dr. Ransom West Douglas; two sons, Asoliye Douglas and Natrebo Douglas; a daughter, Pauline Douglas; stepchildren, Selina and Solomon Richardson; two grandchildren, Jada and Matthew; two sisters, Gwen Henzi of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kim Leavitt of Fort Garland, Colo.; aunts, Jinko Miner, Keiko Brewer (Richard), Doko Fowler and Janko Davila; 11 cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gayle will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., Norfolk. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the loving people of Brookwood Elementary School, Virginia Beach; Buguma Community, USA; Kalabari National Association, USA and Organization of Rivers States Communities, USA.
