Robert Neilsen Obituary

Robert Warde Neilsen CARY - Robert Warde "Bob" Neilsen, 74, died peacefully June 11, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of Elizabeth Merrill and Warde Neilsen. Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Sartory Neilsen; daughter, Jenean Neilsen Todd (Ken) of Wilmington; son, Kenneth Neilsen of Sanford; daughter, Amy Neilsen Aldrich of Cary; grandsons, Collin and Griffin; granddaughter, Huston; two sisters, Jackie West (Gordon) of Norfolk and Geri Stevens (Dean) of Smithfield; along with many nieces and nephews. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 26 years. In retirement, he held many enjoyable jobs that provided opportunities to meet people in the community. Bob, who worked as an usher at the RBC Center for nine years, was an avid Hurricanes fan and a fixture at the top of Section 107. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and a large group of close friends. As his health declined, his world expanded through the Internet to an extensive group of online friends with whom he communicated regularly. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. The family will receive friends for a celebration of Bob's life Saturday, June 20, at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Walnut St., Cary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church. Arrangements made by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.

He was one of the kindest people that I have ever met. My friend I will miss you, but never forget you. Rest is peace!!! The West Priority Louge will be a pleasant reminder of you.

I will miss Bob at the Hurricanes games. He was a joy to see there. Bob always had a smile and wave for me no matter how he felt. I am sad to hear of his passing. Next season won't be the same.

One of my father's best friends, Mr. Neilsen has been a part of my life for over 30 years. I'll miss you Bob.

When we moved from N.Y., to Cary, in 1973, we moved into the same development, as the Neilsens. Our daughter's became fast friends and wanted their father's to meet, since they had so much in common. As time, went on, they became, more like brothers. As close friends, we traveled together, played cards and of course, had lots of parties. Bob & Robert, both worked at the RBC Center, and enjoyed the job and meeting all the people. We will truly miss him, but, never forget him. All our love and sympathy to Barbara and family.
