Jeannette Africa Obituary

Jeannette A. Africa NORFOLK - Jeannette A. Africa, 72, passed away peacefully June 14, 2009. Mrs. Africa was born July 29, 1936, to the late Elbridge and Bera Purdy in Washington, D.C. She loved going to flea markets and spending time with her family. Jeannette will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 54 years, James H. Africa; son, James H. Africa Jr.; three daughters, Lanette E. Africa, Tynette E. Africa and Sonette E. Winslow; four grandchildren, John G. Williams Jr., Benjamin P. Williams, Ryan M. Winslow and Scott J. Winslow. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
